Backup Software

Backing up data is crucial to keep things secure.  No data storage device is faultless. Problems occur at the best of times.   Computers are known for crashing at the time you need the data the most, resulting in the loss of the stored data.

The potential for loss is the paramount reason to perform regular backups of your data.  The decision for how often or how much you backup depends on how much you depend on your computer.  If you rely on your information heavily for work or business, it may be necessary to create a backup on a daily basis, even hourly for some.

Various devices are available to backup data. DVD’s,CD burners, tapes, external hard drives and servers on the Internet.  Pros and cons exist for each of these devices. However, mirroring your backups on a different device is the best choice to be on the safe side.

There are five different methods to back data up:
1.  Full backup - Creating a complete mirror of the hard drive.
2.  Differential backup - Creating a backup only for files that have been changed or upgraded.
3.  Disk image - Backing up the entire hard drive or the files selected.
4.  Unattended backup - Setting the software to create the backup if you aren’t around to do it.
5.  Snapshot backup - This backup will mirror the hard drive.
Choose a program that best fits your needs.  Pricing is an important factor. However, ease of use and overall reliability should be included in your decision.

Backups are the very best way to keep data preserved and intact.
